The luxury of being able to throw your clothes in the machine, spend some time debating what setting to put it on, then go to work, come home and – if you remember – move them to the drier
Yeah that’s not possible for me here in Mkushi
I’ve been failing miserably washing my laundry in a basin full of soapy water in the grass next to the house
The art of removing stains with detergent and hard scrubbing has skinned my fingers… Pathetic, I know!
Locals find my struggle incredibly amusing… and they don’t even try to hide their laughter
Can you blame them? Onlooking at an Adult struggling with, what is for them, a basic task of life
But their laughter is soon overshadowed by their own incredibly kind nature, to always offer a helping hand
Although, I still don’t know how comfortable I feel with every man, woman, or child that passes by wanting to give me a dig out scrubbing my underwear…
